We used the software AppFurnace to create a basic app that does a specific job. This image shows the homepage of the app once it’s loaded up on AppFurnace. The widgets section on the left is where you are able to add buttons, images, video and more types of media onto your app. Below that is the pages your app is built up of which you are able to manage and edit to your liking. The properties section on the right hand side is where you can edit the content on the app that you have currently selected. Along the top are some options you can select such as editing code, location settings and managing certain types of files associated with your app.
AppFurnace
Joe Cutlan - Digital Media 2015
This is what my app looks like when run on a mobile device. As you can see, the AppFurnace logo is in the top right hand corner as my app is ran through the AppFurnace application which allows me to test it out. The page on display is the homepage of my application. It lists the multiple pages i can access in order to find out more about that specific thing.
Homepage
Content
Resort Info
The resort information page displays information about the ski resort Val Thorens. This page includes text, images and a back button allowing the user to access the Homepage. The issue i had with this page is that there are scroll bars located in the text boxes even though there is no reason to scroll as all the information is currently on display.
Places to
Visit
This is the places to visit page which displays the top places to go and check out whilst in Val Thorens. La Folie Douce, SnowCafe International Bar, Bowling de Val Thorens and 360 Bar are on display here showing images of what to expect. The concept here was to have further information on each place on the click of an image. I was not able to accomplish this in enough time.
Ski
Etiquette
The ski etiquette page is a simple page showing off some key skills that are needed in order to ski effectively and safely so users can enjoy their skiing experience. I only added a few rules to give the concept of what the page could be like.
Images
I added an images page to display some of the scenery users are able to expect when visiting Val Thorens. This includes skiing during the day and going out during the night. I have also included a map of Val Thorens showing all of the ski runs.
Videos
The videos page includes 2 videos on Val Thorens. The first video talks about facts, places to visit and things to expect once skiing into Val Thorens. The second video is a teaser into what the user can expect when they visit La Folie Douce.
Map
This is the map section which displays the users current location whilst on the page in a Google map layout. Whilst building the application i used the location settings feature to display the 'Places to Visit' page once the skier entered the marked area on the map covering the Val Thorens ski resort. I believe this feature is very useful as new skiers to the area are then reminded of potential places near them that they may want to go.
Try it Out!
If you want to preview my app on your smartphone, then download the AppFurnace application to your device and scan the QR Code in order to start using it!
Summary
I have thoroughly enjoyed using AppFurnace to build my own personalized application. It is a great piece of software that allows you to quickly build and launch an application with little to zero knowledge of how to use it. Depending on the task at hand, it allows the user to create a very basic application that does a simple task, or to build an in depth application that has a range of uses. I feel that my application does its intended job of providing users with necessary information and media on how to make the most of the ski resort Val Thorens. However i believe with more time and a better understanding of the software's more advanced tools, i could have created a better working application that has a higher range of uses and functions.
